Cafe Paris Absinthe Match Striker Holder- Porcelain, Hand Painted
Carefully Packed and Shipped ASAP with Tracking and Insurance
This wonderful match strike (called a
pyrogène
in French) is an exact reproduction of those found throughout late 19th and early 20th century European Cafes .  In those days, it was common to see a match striker sitting on a cafe table or bar.  Their purpose was to store matches for customers use.  The base (the rough surface area) is used to strike and ignite a match. These match strikes were made and generally provided for free by liquor companies and served as advertising.  (Much like we today see Coca-cola signs on restaurant tables provided by Coca-cola, match strikes were provided by beverage and liquor companies).  This is not a cheap “knock off”.  They are exact and highly accurate reproductions which are difficult to differentiate from vintage match holders.
The “strike anywhere” matches work best with these.  The regular household kitchen matches will not light, as the white-tip match is needed to ignite the match.  Alternatively, they can also be used to hold toothpicks.  I have one sitting on our fireplace mantle at home.
Measures 3.5″ tall x 3.5″ in diameter.
Match holding compartment is 2.125″ deep.
Made of hand painted porcelain.
